On December 21, we welcomed Ms. Akane Lievre from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) as a presenter of the 54th International Hour.

She is 5th year medical student at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. On this day, she introduced East London Medicine with full of interesting topics.

Her presentation became an eye-opener for medical students of Hokkaido University, because medicine in east London, she talked about, is characterised by highly globalized medicine dealing with multiple ethnic groups. We could also see what are the challenges for East London Medicine, which should be a useful reference for any country’s medicine exposed to the wave of globalization.

This time she stayed for a short time but next May she will come back to School of Medicine, Hokkaido University for three-weeks clinical electives.
